Field Application Scientist, FAS, Synthetic DNA, Boston

Summary of Role:
We are seeking a Field Application Scientist role to provide technical sales support, giving technical presentations at customer sites and select conferences and working directly with customers to identify additional disruptive applications for the BioXp™ system. The successful applicant will provide complex experimental design and applications support, troubleshooting and diagnosis on BioXp™ system in life science research and drug discovery settings. The Field Applications Scientist will be responsible for providing operator training on BioXp™ system instruments and educate customers on current BioXp applications and how to replace or streamline their existing workflows through integration of those applications in their laboratory processes. This position also has a pre-sales function and works closely as a partner with the sales team. He/she will also formulate changes in development, maintenance, and system standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive technical training and support for the BioXp™ system technology, including on-site, hands-on wet lab and software training
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical and scientific presentations, to small groups and large audiences, on the use of BioXp™ system technology in life science research and drug discovery segments
  • Carry out demonstrations and feasibility studies, where appropriate
  • Prepare and present white papers, conference posters, and other collateral
  • Create and maintain support information in the company enterprise database
  •  Implement training plans and courses for internal and external customers
  • Participate in new product development projects
  • Assist in the creation and review of technical materials (manuals, application notes, presentations)
  • Follow standard practices and procedures analyzing situations or data
  • Work with R&D leadership to appropriately insert new products in the pipeline
  • Design of DNA constructs for custom applications as needed
  • Create clear, compelling technical presentations
  • Excellent speaking skills and polished customer interactions
  • Present data in a clear and compelling manner
  • Assist in the sales process

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with PCR, cloning, NGS, cell culture workflows.  Experience with DNA design, combinatorial library design, codon optimization and Gibson Assembly and other synthetic biology workflows.
  • 2+ years of experience in field applications or technical sales support in a drug discovery role
  • Working in a customer facing role with a “sales” and “support” focused mindset
  • Customer focused attitude
  • Confident speaker, ability to convey complex technical information with ease in English
  • Highly adaptable and independent
  • Thrive in a start-up, rapidly growing company environment
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, including fluent English, great computer skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic instrument software interfaces and networking
  • Collaborative, problem solving skills
  • Available to work nights and weekends, as required

Education Requirements:
  • M.S. or PhD. Molecular Biology or related field
  • Fluent English with additional language skills a plus

Working Conditions:
  • Travel: 50-75% including internationally
  • Work from Home, Live within 2 hours of major international airport in the Boston area, OR in Northern OR Southern California area.
