Role: Oversee Our client’s legal and compliance operations, to provide a strategic vision and execute proactive legal and compliance policies, and to ensure the company is protected. Today in a team of 1, this role is the first of its kind at our client — an opportunity to build from the ground up. We are looking for both individual contributors and, eventually, a leader for this team. This role will drive differentiation of our client Insurance from other digital insurance agencies within the mortgage world. This person will have a key role in building and growing our partnerships strategy and establishing a repeatable plan through deployment and operations. The person selected for this opportunity will join the executive team telling the our client's story, business strategy, closing deals, and growing the company culture, and will be on the leading edge of helping shape our client’s direction in disrupting the future of personal lines insurance.
What your day will look like
  • Advise the COO/CEO and leadership team on all legal and regulatory matters as it pertains to the current and future strategy of the company & products
  • Provide management team with day-to-day legal perspective and guidance, as well as risk assessment and mitigation
  • Be an integral part of the business/sales teams’ efforts to establish and evaluate existing and potential business relationships, with significant responsibilities for negotiating, preparing and reviewing partner contracts
  • Assist VP Insurance with Insurance Carrier partnership negotiations, contracts, etc
  • Build and maintain a contracts (clients, vendors and partnership) tracking and monitoring system
  • Assist in a variety of employee matters including overseeing licensing operations, compensation & other HR matters for Workers Comp and employee benefits legal adherence, and other employee related legal items
  • Track and advise on any changes to regulations as it pertains to insurance and mortgage that affect Our client
  • Review all marketing, soliciting, scripting, etc for regulatory compliance and licensing approval
  • Assist the CEO on intellectual property matters
  • Assist the CTO/CISO on data privacy policies
  • Prepare position papers (format TBD) on RESPA, UDAAP, and the overall landscape of insurance within the mortgage transaction (possibly without outside counsel)
  • Evaluate product and operational risks as it relates to corporate E&O, Cyber and General Liability insurance coverages
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as needed
What you bring to the table
  • 7+ years experience preferred
    • Prior in-house experience required
  • Experience with technology space, startups, digital marketing or e-commerce strongly preferred
  • Experience with Insurance AND Lending Compliance strongly preferred
    • Experience in regulated industries such as financial services or healthcare required IF NO previous Personal Lines Insurance or Mortgage Experience
  • Strategic thinker and innovative, creative problem-solving, often in unprecedented cutting-edge scenarios in an ever changing and competitive environment
  • Fast and eager learner.  Demonstrate ability to gain knowledge of the business, our industries and become an integral part of the executive team
  • Ability to think proactively and strategically with vision of ideas and actions while also balancing current workload and business needs
  • Capable of accessing and managing appropriate levels of risk consistent with upholding the law and maintaining the company's high standards while helping to drive the business forward
  • Currently Living in/near Columbus, Ohio, or willing to relocate preferred,  Remote Work/Work from Home will be considered for the right candidate;
  • Willing to travel to corporate offices or industry events as needed
